How to Apply Lace Glue: The 4-Step Pretty Mob Method

To apply lace glue correctly: cleanse and dry your hairline, apply one thin layer of On Guard, then 2–3 thin layers of Stay Stuck waiting for each to go fully clear, press the lace down for 60 seconds, then seal with Stay Laid melting spray. The full process takes 15–25 minutes.

Before you start: what you need

You need On Guard Skin Shield, Stay Stuck lace adhesive, Stay Laid melting spray, 70% isopropyl alcohol, the included applicator stick and a hair dryer on its cool setting.

Step 1 — Prep your skin (the step everyone skips)

Wipe your hairline with an alcohol pad to remove oil, sweat and SPF residue. Let it air dry for 60 seconds. Apply one thin layer of On Guard along the full lace perimeter and let it dry until tacky.

This is the single biggest reason installs fail in the UK. Skin oil breaks the adhesive bond within hours. On Guard creates a barrier so the glue sticks to the product, not to your skin oils.

Step 2 — Apply the glue in thin layers

Apply 3–6 thin layers of Stay Stuck along your hairline using the applicator stick, or 4–6 for oily skin. Let every layer dry completely clear before applying the next. Use a cool blow-dryer if needed.

Thin layers cure properly. Thick layers can stay wet underneath and lift in patches.

Step 3 — Lay and press the lace

Position the lace exactly where you want it before touching the glue. Press down from the centre out, then hold the perimeter with firm fingertip pressure for a full 60 seconds. A cool blast of hair dryer helps the bond set faster.

Step 4 — Melt and seal

Spray Stay Laid melting spray along the lace perimeter and gently press with a microfibre cloth. This melts the lace into your skin tone and seals the bond. Tie down with a silk scarf for 10 minutes if you have time — it makes the finish noticeably more invisible.

    Step by Step

    1. Step 1

      Prep the skin

Wipe hairline with alcohol, let dry, apply one thin layer of On Guard.

    2. Step 2

Apply thin layers of Stay Stuck

Brush 2–3 thin layers, waiting for each to go clear before the next.

    3. Step 3

      Lay and press

Position the lace, press from centre outward, hold for 60 seconds.

    4. Step 4

      Melt and seal

Spray Stay Laid along the perimeter and press with a microfibre cloth.

    Common Mistakes

    • Skipping the alcohol wipe — oil and SPF on your skin destroy hold.
    • Applying glue while it is still white. Always wait until fully clear.
    • Pressing the lace for 5 seconds instead of 60.
    • Using random oils to remove instead of the Stay Stuck remover.

    💌 From Shay

    • "If you can see your glue, it isn't ready yet. Wait for the colour to disappear completely."
    • "Tie down with a silk scarf for 10 minutes after melt. That's where invisible installs come from."
    • "Cool air, never hot. Hot air bubbles the glue."

    Quick Answers

How many layers of lace glue should I apply?
Two thin layers for dry skin, three for oily or sweaty skin. Always wait for each layer to go fully clear before adding the next.
How long should I press the lace down?
A full 60 seconds with firm fingertip pressure along the entire perimeter. A cool hair-dryer blast helps the bond cure faster.
Do I really need On Guard before Stay Stuck?
Follow the full routine: On Guard, your lace glue, then Stay Laid Melt Spray. Stay Stuck and Heat Wave are each designed to work with Stay Laid Melt & Seal Spray for 2–6 weeks of hold with correct application and aftercare. The spray is required for this advertised hold. Follow the full application routine.
Why is my lace lifting on the edges?
Almost always either oily skin (didn't prep), glue applied too thick, or not enough press time. Run through the 4 steps again and add one extra thin layer.
