How to Avoid White Residue When Using Lace Glue
White residue is one of the most frustrating things that can happen during a lace install. The good news? It's almost always preventable. Here's why it happens and how to avoid it completely.
Why White Residue Happens
White residue is caused by excess glue that hasn't properly bonded or dried. It usually happens when too much glue is applied, when the glue isn't allowed to get tacky before pressing, or when the lace is disturbed during the drying process.
How to Prevent It
Apply a thin layer. Seriously thin. You need less glue than you think. A single, even layer is all it takes for a strong bond.
Wait for tackiness. Don't press your lace into wet glue. Wait 30–60 seconds until the glue feels sticky but not wet.
Don't over-work the lace. Once pressed, leave it alone. Constantly lifting and adjusting will cause the glue to ball up and create residue.
Use Stay Laid to seal. Melting spray helps lock everything in place and prevents the glue from lifting and creating visible residue.
How to Fix It If It Happens
If you notice white residue after your install, don't panic. Apply a small amount of Loosen Up Remover to a cotton pad and gently wipe the affected area. Then reapply melting spray to re-seal.
